The Glamis Consultancy

About The Glamis Consultancy

The Glamis Consultancy is directed by Dr. Colin Smith who has over 20 years experience in the planning, development and management of tourism projects in Scotland and across the UK. Colin has experience in the private and public sectors, ranging from the pharmaceutical sector via economic development to private sector consultancy.

Colin has been involved in a wide portfolio of projects ranging from air services development, visitor attractions development and Area Tourism Strategy formulation, to major events, including the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race, Business Tourism in Edinburgh and Dundee, and a range of innovative tourism marketing projects across Scotland.

For nine years he was Chief Executive of Angus & Dundee Tourist Board and has substantial experience in working with senior representatives of local authorities, Members of Parliament in Scotland and at Westminster and has a sound working knowledge of European and other funding programmes.

A scientist by training but with a keen enthusiasm for and deep knowledge of the tourism sector, he brings a wealth of experience to his projects. His scientific training has developed his robust analytical approach, believing that actions must be supported by available evidence.

He combines this approach with an innovative "can do" approach to projects and a genuine enthusiasm for tourism.

In addition to managing the Glamis Consultancy, Colin is also a moderately successful freelance landscape and maritime photographer and an occasional author on maritime history. He is a member of the John Muir Trust, the Clyde River Steamer Club and the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society.
